The church castillo de los templarios del Bullidor

I made this photographic report for Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia in monochrome of the path that leads to Bullidor, a village within the municipality of Barbens in the region of Pla d'Urgell.

Now there are only a couple of inhabited houses, in addition to the remains of the church, built on an old castle documented from the 12th century, when Arnau de Formiguera gave the possessions he had in Bullidor to the Templars.

The old parish church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was the seat of the Barony of Bullidor. In 1483 the lordship passed to the knight Dalmau de Copons. The Massots (who obtained the title of baronet of Bullidor) and the Dalmases would later become lords.

According to tradition, it was a hiding place for bandits. The terminus cross that was at the entrance to this little town was moved to the Plaza de Barbens.

Currently the church-castle is in a ruined state. The bell tower still stands, which corresponds to the old keep. We also see a large voussoir portal, some 16th century windows, the baptistery, added in the 18th century, and ashlars with stonemason marks.
