The Spanish Txell Alarcón Otero (Barcelona, July 31, 2003, 1.76 m), point guard for Kutxabank Araski in the Women's League, has been chosen in the third round, eighth position (32), of the WNBA draft by the Washington Mystics.
The 19-year-old player was trained in Sant Adrià and after being crowned U20 European champion, she signed for Araski led by Made Urieta, where she is performing at a high level, with averages that rise to 7.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.7 assists.
The Catalan player is the eleventh Spanish player to be chosen in the draft in the American league, something that Amaya Valdemoro achieved for the first time in 1998. The last Spaniards to do so were Raquel Carrera and Aina Ayuso in 2021.
It is difficult for Alarcón to play in the WNBA next season and it is a bet on the future, as confirmed by the general manager of Washington, Mike Thibault: "We chose her in the third round to have her rights for the future and see her progress next year ", said.
