The Plenary Session of the Consell de l'Audiovisual de Catalunya (CAC) unanimously adopted today a resolution in which it considers that the parody of the Virgen del Rocío that the program Està passant, from TV3, broadcast on April 4 in its section " The impromptu interview" is protected by the right to freedom of expression.
"Satirical expression is a manifestation of the free opinion of ideas, beliefs and value judgments, which is used as an instrument of denunciation and social criticism", affirms the CAC.
Although it recognizes that these satirical expressions "can be unfortunate, and even hurtful, especially for people who profess the Catholic faith", the CAC does not see any violation of audiovisual regulations in them.
The resolution, which has been prepared based on a content report, points out that "L'Entrevista impromptu" incorporates satirical and ironic elements within the framework of a humor program, so there is no possibility of confusion regarding the communicative purpose of the parsed snippet.
In addition, it points out that the host of the program, leaving aside the humorous record, expresses his respect for said religious beliefs on up to three different occasions.
Likewise, it cites ten previous agreements that the CAC has drawn up on freedom of expression, in addition to various resolutions and sentences, several of them from international organizations, on the treatment of religion and the limits of freedom of expression.
