The best supermarket red wines for less than 8 euros, according to the OCU

Now that the end of the year is approaching, meetings and celebrations among friends and family increase, sometimes accompanied by a good wine that surprises guests and hosts. Although it is thought that in order to buy a good bottle we have to pay a lot, this is not always the case. For this reason, the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has carried out a study with 31 aged red wines available in different supermarkets to demonstrate that "it is easy to acquire a good aged red wine at an interesting price."

In the analysis carried out by the organization, different factors were taken into account such as the degree of alcohol, residual sugars, acidity and the amount of additives present in the wines. Likewise, a panel of expert oenologists carried out tastings with the wines studied to determine which of them had the best visual, olfactory and gustatory characteristics. The wine best rated by tasters was Abadía San Quirce Crianza 2019, a wine from the D.O. Ribera del Duero made with Tempranillo grapes, with an average price of 17.50 euros. This was rated by the jury with a score of 93 points out of 100.
