The best books to give this Christmas

We are approaching one of the key moments of the year for the world of books. As Christmas approaches, we intensify our visits to bookstores in search of suggestive, interesting, seductive and original works to give as gifts and treat ourselves. In this special Cultura|s - at the newsstand with La Vanguardia this Saturday, December 17 - we offer a review of the highlights that we will have at our disposal.

In this time of digital revolution in all fields, bookstores maintain and intensify a very peculiar mythology. Not only are they points for book trade, they also constitute centers of cultural activity and, increasingly, spaces for human and even therapeutic contact, a phenomenon that we analyze in the special supplement, illustrated on its cover by Sonia Pulido.

We also comment, as a trend of the year that ends, the rise of very literary confessions of fifteen authors, who explain without subterfuge difficult situations that have marked their lives. And we review the most attractive recent developments in the fields of international narrative, in Catalan, in Spanish, and crime.

We offer a selection of illustrated books, as well as featured works of non-fiction. And also the news from the Libros de Vanguardia publishing house, which this year has achieved a notable impact with the conversations between Quim Monzó and Sergi Pàmies.

Furthermore, we interviewed Rafael Argullol, who has achieved one of the great books of the year, or of the decade, with Human Dance.

And we comment on the offer in music books, comics and children's and youth literature. A rich panorama for readers at the end of the year 2023.
