The Aemet sets a date for the arrival of the first heat wave of summer, with highs of 45 degrees

The rains and instability have the hours counted. Scattered showers and storms are expected for this Tuesday in the north and northwest of the peninsula. Same scenario for Wednesday in the northern third of the peninsula and in the interior of the eastern third. However, the arrival of an anticyclone from Thursday will leave a "very hot environment", with highs between 35 and 40 degrees in large areas of Spain, which could lead to the "first heat wave of this summer".

During this weekend and the beginning of the next, the intense heat is expected to continue, which could lead to the first heat wave of the summer, according to the spokesman for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), Rubén Del Campo. For this, the three thresholds have to be met: "necessary intensity, duration and extent".

The heat will begin to tighten from Thursday, when it will exceed 35 degrees in the Guadalquivir valley, and there will be a probability of tropical nights on the peninsular Mediterranean coast, the Balearic Islands and in the lower and middle Guadalquivir.

On Friday the thermometer will continue to rise. It is expected to exceed 35 degrees in the southwest quadrant, without ruling out reaching 40 in the Guadalquivir valley. There will be tropical nights in the Guadalquivir valley, without ruling it out on the Mediterranean coast and the Balearic Islands. And up to 45 degrees in the Tagus, Guadiana and Guadalquivir valleys, according to the Aemet forecast.

Some points in the Andalusian Mediterranean and in the interior of Andalusia and Extremadura may not drop below 25 degrees (hot nights), the agency warns.

If this situation is confirmed, according to Del Campo, temperatures would be between "5 and 10 (degrees) above normal" for this time of year in the west and center of the peninsula and in areas of the Mediterranean.

If, for at least three consecutive days, values above the threshold temperature are recorded in 10% of the weather stations in our country, we will be facing a heat wave. The first of the summer of 2023.
