The Academy confirms that the technical categories of the Oscars will be broadcast live again

The Oscars will go back to the way it used to be. The eight technical categories that were announced before the start of the gala will be broadcast live again. This has been confirmed by the director general of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Bill Kramer, to Variety magazine.

The categories in question are Best Editing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Production Design, Best Sound, Best Fiction Short, Best Animation Short, Best Documentary Short and Best Soundtrack.

The decision comes after the strong criticism that took place in the last edition for silencing the work of film technicians and artisans with less media support. A stir that was joined by filmmakers of the stature of Guillermo del Toro and Steven Spielberg.

The rain of criticism failed to stop the decision last year, but this 95th edition did, which will take place on March 12 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. A gala that will mean the return of Jimmy Kimmel as master of ceremonies. The comedian, who has already presented the ceremony three times, will replace Chris Rock after the controversial incident with Will Smith.

Kramer also assured that the 95th edition of the Oscars will mark the path towards the centenary of the Academy party with a celebration of its legacy and a look towards its future, so it will be a "very important" installment.
