The 2023 Emmys are postponed indefinitely due to the strike of writers and actors

The unions of American actors and screenwriters continue to strike after failing to reach a new agreement with the studios. The consequences of the mobilization, which has paralyzed the Hollywood industry, continue to be felt in more and more parts of the sector. The last affected have been the Emmy Awards, which have announced that they are postponed indefinitely.

As confirmed by Variety, the Television Academy has decided to postpone the awards gala while the strike continues. In the original plans, the celebration of the Primetime Emmys was going to take place on September 18, while the delivery of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which recognize more technical and creative categories, were scheduled for September 9 and 10. month.

Despite canceling such dates, the Academy has not ventured to propose a new one, leaving the gala of its prestigious awards in an indefinite delay. The nominees were announced on July 12, the same day that the Actors Union (SAG-AFTRA) began its strike, joining the scriptwriters, who have been demonstrating since the beginning of May.

Since the Writers Guild (WGA) announced on May 2 that they were going on strike, there have been several award ceremonies that have seen their calendar altered in 2023. The Peabody Awards were canceled and the Tony Awards had to perform significant last-minute changes to be able to be celebrated.

However, the Television Academy hoped to keep its September dates while waiting for the unions and producers to finally reach an agreement. This has not happened and, with just over a month to go, the organization has found it impossible for the Emmys to be held normally.

The series with the most nominations in 2023 have been Succession, which is up for 27 awards; The Last of Us, which opts for 24; The White Lotus, who can achieve 23, and Ted Lasso, who reaches 21 nominations. To find out who the big winners will be, you have to wait for the Academy to make a new date official, which may not arrive as long as the strike is not resolved.
