Sumar proposes Zapatero as mediator for the negotiation of the amnesty law with Junts

Jaume Asens, Sumar's negotiator with Junts, proposed this Monday that former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero be involved in the negotiation process with the independence party as a mediator, to address Carles Puigdemont's request that there be a mediation to monitor the agreements that are achieved for the formation of government.

According to Asens, the request of the former president of the Generalitat does not have to be an obstacle to the agreement, since "in any negotiation, someone can be useful to give faith or facilitate the dialogue, especially when it is based on deep distrust." , he pointed out in reference to the reservations that Puigdemont has expressed regarding compliance with the agreements by the PSOE.

The member of the commons considers that, to a certain extent, Sumar fulfills this mediation role, but admits that other prominent figures for playing this mediating role in other political conflicts, such as former President Zapatero "could be useful."

In an interview on La Hora de La 1, Asens described the PP as “hypocritical” for criticizing the photo of the acting vice president, Yolanda Díaz, with Carles Puigdemont in Brussels, while secret conversations are being held with Junts from Genoa, “that is with Puigdemont”, through third parties. In any case, the general secretary of Junts, Jordi Turull, has denied that his party has held negotiations with the PP.

Although last week he indicated that there was time to approve the amnesty before the investiture, this Monday Asens clarified that it may not be possible, "it is forcing the machine a lot," but neither he nor Sumar's spokesman, Ernest Urtasun, said so. considered a serious obstacle in the negotiation.

Urtasun placed the accent on the political will of the parties, rather than on the calendar. "No one is unaware that parliamentary procedures have their deadlines, we will have to be able to fit political will with the deadlines established by law," he said, but added that on Sumar's part, "political will is everything," and "In this sense we are optimistic: we are convinced that the agreement will advance and that we will be able to reach deadlines that are convenient for everyone."
