Stork garlic seizes its great moment

Stork garlic (all bord, in Catalan) takes advantage of its great moment. In The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia we can see what the Allium sphaerocephalon looks like in the fields of Gurb, in Osona.

Its flowering occurs between April and June, therefore it is now in its splendor. The flower with elongated and ovate petals is keeled, lanceolate, almost closed and from it you can distinguish how the stamens protrude, as reflected in the images.

It is a perennial herb with intense red flowers that draws attention, not only to hikers who come across it in the countryside, but it is also a pole of attraction for pollinators.

Its stem and bulbs have an intense smell of garlic. This 40-80 cm plant is easily found in farmland, along paths and pastures.

The stork's garlic stem is hollow, cylindrical and not always erect, but can be twisted. It is resistant to full sun and increasingly appreciated in gardening.
