Some fireworks that do not pollute

There are not a few technology analysts who predict that 2023 may be the definitive year for the takeoff of extended or mixed reality. It is a technology that adds elements to the real ones, very similar to augmented reality, but based on holograms, in which the contents remain anchored in space. In the experience that can be enjoyed at 4YFN, visitors have the opportunity to create fireworks (flying for the canaries) on a hologram model of Barcelona.

The technology used in this demonstration arrives in Barcelona thanks to Mobile World Capital Barcelona and Nubii, a company created from the parent company Singular Factory, founded by Gustavo Medina from the Canary Islands. In this space of the demonstration, homage is paid to the sense of sight, which "technology can enrich or alter".

When you put on the glasses, the technology allows you to see the fireworks over the city, but it is not a unique animation, because the user's point of view can change, and a controller is available with which the angle, number and direction can be changed. frequency of fireworks. Always in a virtual way, without producing real fire or smoke in the atmosphere. Each person who participates in this experience can create their own avatar. In this way, they manage to be in the same virtual room attending the same show.

Unlike virtual reality, which has its practical application in video games and metaverse-type environments, extended reality is always used in a real environment. It can be applied, for example, in emergency control rooms and company control centers, where an app and glasses can create any screen or three-dimensional environment. “We could use it, as an example, to manage forest fires or simulate the emergency of the La Palma volcano, seeing what is happening in real time”, explains Gustavo Medina.

At the moment, extended reality is more popular in professional fields, where it has an infinite number of applications in all fields, from industrial to medical or military. But you have to be vigilant, because its arrival to the general public may be close.
