Sánchez charges against the president of Ferrovial and denies his "commitment" to Spain

“Entrepreneurs have an enormous social responsibility in the society in which they are born and carry out all their activities. And in Spain there are extraordinarily positive examples of big businessmen committed to their country. But of course, after this announcement, it is not the case of Mr. del Pino”. With these words, Pedro Sánchez has expressed this Thursday, from Copenhagen, his total rejection of him, and even indignation, with Ferrovial's decision to move its headquarters from Spain to the Netherlands.

"If Botín and Galán protest, we are going in the right direction," Sánchez replied last summer, referring to the presidents of Banco Santander and Iberdrola, Ana Botín and Ignacio Sánchez Galán, to justify the new taxes on financial institutions and energy corporations with which he sought to alleviate the serious economic effects of the war in Ukraine. And this Thursday, in a joint appearance with the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, the President of the Government has also explicitly pointed out the president of Ferrovial, Rafael del Pino.

And it is that the new tax on large fortunes, approved with the same objective as the previous ones, could now be behind Ferrovial's decision to move its headquarters to the Netherlands, which Moncloa attributes to the "personal interest" of the top executive of the multinational construction company, Rafael del Pino.

Sánchez has warned that the Government is going to study whether the announcement that Ferrovial has made to transfer its headquarters to the Netherlands "corresponds with the law." In line with this news, the Chief Executive wanted to reflect: "Businessmen play a very important role in our society and this has been recognized by the Government in very difficult times such as the pandemic and now also the war." However, while the health emergency was being overcome and now the consequences of the war, Sánchez stressed that this complex situation has also allowed many businessmen to "increase their economic activity".
