At the same time that the Popular Party seals its new government coalitions with the extreme right in the Valencian Community and Extremadura, Pedro Sánchez has accused Alberto Núñez Feijóo of trying to "muddy politics and the campaign to cover up his pacts with Vox", by raising "unjustified doubts about the democratic process and voting in our country" after the opposition leader questioned the work of the Post Office in processing remote voting for next July 23.
The President of the Government has thus denounced that the leader of the PP, in his opinion, seeks to "muddy the field, the pitch, to generate disaffection and polarize Spanish public opinion", as he has criticized in an interview in Ser, already barely ten days from the appointment with the polls. Sánchez has categorically denied that he has given orders so that the vote by mail is not distributed within the deadline, as Feijóo has suggested. "Absolutely. All this is due to a campaign that aims to muddy the political debate, ”he replied.
The PSOE leader has insisted that Feijóo's strategy seeks to "overshadow what is unfortunately going to happen today in Extremadura and the Valencian Community, and that is that two coalition governments are going to be formed between the PP and Vox." It is, he has reiterated, a strategy of "muddling and creating disaffection so that people do not go to vote or mistrust the electoral process." And, as Prime Minister, he has guaranteed that Spain is "a full and robust democracy" and that "a clean democratic process" will take place.
"I am not going to enter this mud in which the PP and Feijóo are," he assured. The right would thus seek that the campaign does not talk about "what matters to the citizens", in addition to "trying to hide two new governments of the PP with Vox".
In this sense, Sánchez has also tried to dismantle the offer of the leader of the PP, which the Socialists consider a "trick proposal", so that the list with the most votes on 23-J governs Spain. "It is a smoke screen so that these pacts of shame are not seen," he insisted. "We have once and for all to remove this curtain," he has demanded. And he has recalled that after the two general elections of 2019 he also requested the abstention of the PP, without success. In addition, the PSOE will not be able to govern now in communities such as Extremadura or the Canary Islands, or in municipalities such as Valladolid, despite winning the elections on May 28. “This debate is over, the PP will govern with Vox if it can”, he has settled.
