Shannen Doherty reveals why she was fired from 'Feeling Like Living'

Anyone who experienced television in the 90s will remember Brenda Walsh, the innocent but somewhat rebellious teenager and Dylan's eternal girlfriend in Beverly Hills, 902010: Feeling Living. A role that launched Shannen Doherty to international stardom, who at 52 years old has managed to build a career with more than a hundred titles behind her.

An enviable professional career, but by no means easy; Well, the actress has always carried the burden of being a professional with a "difficult" character. A fame that came to her during the time of Sensación de vivir, precisely when she was fired from the series. However, the actress wanted to confirm the real reason why she was fired at her peak after four years of broadcast.

The actress took advantage of a visit to her podcast Let's Be Clear With Shannon Doherty from one of her co-stars in the series, Jason Priestley - who played her twin brother in fiction, Brandon Walsh - to talk about the reasons behind of his dismissal.

Doherty was part of the original leading cast in the series during its first four seasons, becoming one of the favorites of fiction. However, in 1994, she left the series, only revealing at the beginning of the fifth season that her character had gone to the United Kingdom to make her dream of being an actress come true.

However, behind the scenes, things were much more tense for everyone. Doherty explained that he was going through a bad time on a personal level that ended up affecting his work. In those years, the actress was living "a horrible marriage" that made it impossible for her to focus on her professional work.

At that time, Shannen Doherty was married to fellow actor Ashley Hamilton, whose marriage lasted just six months. A relationship that the actress admitted ended up being "a huge problem" for her colleagues, because she complicated their work.

"It was my responsibility, but I wish someone had sat me down and told me: 'Listen, this is going to happen in the end; you're going to get fired and no one is going to put up with this anymore' or that 'we understand that you have problems in your life.' personal, but it can't transfer to work, you have to wake up.'"

Still, the actress admits that she was not completely clear with the producers about what she was suffering from, so no one knew that, in addition to the fact that her husband had a "big drug problem" and caused her to suffer domestic violence, her father was very sick. "She didn't even want to leave the house," she reveals.

Priestley agreed that the actress should have shared more about her situation to avoid dismissal, especially since the series focused precisely on her two characters and Doherty's departure left many unknowns that they could hardly overcome.

"I should have woken up in my personal life. I should have gotten out of that relationship. The fame, the nights out, the fact that my age didn't matter, affected me. I fell into that trap," insists the actress. "I don't blame anyone, it was my responsibility."
