Sexual assault and domestic violence: this is how Ricky Martin's nephew's complaint against his uncle ended

Ricky Martin has emerged victorious from a complex legal imbroglio: no charges will be filed against him over allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence raised by Dennis Yadiel Sánchez Martin, his nephew.

This decision, announced by the Puerto Rico Department of Justice, is based on the inconsistency of the evidence collected during the investigation. In this sense, the San Juan Prosecutor's Office is unable to take legal action against the Puerto Rican singer.

According to the statement, the San Juan Prosecutor's Office has concluded that the evidence obtained during the investigation does not coincide with the allegations presented and, therefore, does not support the accusations against the singer. "After completing an exhaustive investigation process together with the Police Bureau, the San Juan Prosecutor's Office determined that the formulation of charges against Enrique Martin Morales, known publicly as Ricky Martin, is not appropriate," the statement details.

This decision marks a turning point in the case, freeing Martin from the shadows of the accusations and closing a controversial chapter in his personal and professional life.

The outcome of this case comes after a tumultuous judicial period that began in July 2022. It was then that Sánchez Martín obtained a protection order against his uncle, alleging a series of non-consensual sexual encounters since he was 11 years old. This order, however, was later archived at the request of Sánchez Martín himself.

The situation worsened in September 2022, when the renowned artist filed a civil lawsuit against his nephew for extortion, treachery, abuse of rights and damages. In November 2022, the courts granted Ricky Martin a protection order for harassment against his nephew, extended for one year.

In response, in May 2023, Sánchez Martin countersued Ricky Martin for $10 million. In his countersuit, he detailed a series of alleged non-consensual sexual acts, alleging that many of these encounters occurred in Martin's car when he was picking up his nephew from school.

The court document presented by Sánchez Martín described Ricky Martin as someone who "stalked" the minor, taking him to different places in San Juan to have sexual relations. These accusations extended beyond high school and affected Sánchez Martín's minority. In addition, an escalation of telephone and social media communications between both parties was mentioned.
