Seven people were killed this Saturday, including three children, in nighttime attacks by Russian drones against a gas station in Kharkiv, a city in eastern Ukraine, announced the region's governor, Oleg Sinegoubov.
"Unfortunately, the death toll from the attacks by the occupiers in Kharkiv has increased to seven," Sinegúbov declared on the Telegram social network. "Among them there are three children: one 7 years old, another 4 years old and a baby about six months old," he added.
The Shaded Iranian-made drones "impacted a gas station and caused a burning fuel spill, which caused 14 private homes to burn," said the city's mayor, Igor Terekhov, adding that the fire covered a wide perimeter. and had caused the evacuation of about 50 people.
"Three drones hit the Nemyshlyanskyi district of Kharkiv. Sensitive infrastructure was destroyed," said Kharkiv regional prosecutor Oleksandr Filachkov, referring to the gas station. "There was a huge amount of fuel" spilled, "which explains why the fire was so terrible," he stressed.
"At 6:00 in the morning the fight to extinguish the flames continued, and 14 houses had been destroyed," said Kharkiv police chief Volodymyr Timochko, quoted by the daily Suspilne.
Saturday's attack followed a series of overnight attacks in Kharkiv and further east in the town of Velykyï Bourlouk.
The governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleg Sinegubov, had previously stated that civilian areas had been attacked in both towns, including a cafe in Velykyï Bourlouk.
