Sant Jordi looking at the sky

Sant Jordi looks at the sky, where the solar halo can be seen as if it wanted to be the promise of a long-awaited change in weather that brings rain.

The consequences of the persistent drought in Catalonia mark the Book and Rose Day in an April that is also dry, with minimal swamps and rivers, streams and ponds with much less water than other years around these dates.

The solar halo is a disk around the sun that has an iridescent ring on its outer circumference, as seen in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia in these images captured in Manlleu (Osona) and Gavà (Baix Llobregat).

This solar halo occurs with high clouds and sometimes indicates a change in weather, let's hope it's rain to alleviate the persistent drought.

The optical halo effect is caused by ice particles suspended in the troposphere that refract light, generating a spectrum of colors around the moon or sun.

On the Gavà beach, it has been possible to contemplate a Sant Jordi sunrise with coastal clouds and a wink of sun.

"The spectacular solar halo announces the desired rains from Gavà", assures Xavi Cabo, "the damn drought must be mitigated however it may be".
