Rejected the municipal commission to investigate the contracts of the resigned councilor in Alicante

According to what was said today in the municipal plenary session of Alicante, the only reason why the Councilor for Fiestas and Rural Parties, Manuel Jiménez, has resigned and will not be part of the next candidacy of the PP is his personal desire. Mayor Luis Barcala, who in public had maintained a prudent silence on the matter, has stated so.

After thanking her for her work, Barcala said that he did not share her decision to resign, "but I have no choice but to respect her, because she has asked me for her family and for her own dignity, for ethics, and for not letting herself be dragged into a quagmire in the one that others are always comfortable and never get tired of wallowing".

Addressing the opposition, Barcala stated that "in these days we have lived and seen the dirtiest and most despicable of politics; whoever does not know how to win that vote for himself and does not know how to argue for a political option, has to resort to everything and lean on what you can and there are a lot of people interested in that game". On the other hand, for the mayor, Jiménez "represents dignity and honesty above anything else. Thank you for being my friend, for the work you have done, for showing your face, for being an example of ethics and honesty."

The explanations given by Jiménez regarding the contracts awarded by his department to people supposedly close to him have not satisfied either the left-wing opposition, which proposed the creation of an investigative commission to clarify the matter, or Vox, whose representative has thrown out except for one explanation that has not been produced: why didn't Jiménez refrain from intervening in the procedure -as established by law- if he had a relationship with the companies?

However, the two ultra-right councilors have not wanted to add their positive votes to the motion, considering a municipal commission useless and interpreting an electoral intention in it.

During the plenary session, which has unanimously approved the noise ordinance, a group of City Hall officials have gathered in front of its façade to demand the implementation of the professional career, an electoral promise made by Mayor Barcala in 2019. Then they have accessed the Blue Room and his chorus protests - "Barcala, keep your word" and "enough with lies" - have forced the mayor to interrupt the session, the last regular session of the mandate, for about ten minutes.
