Puig rejects the temporary ban on selling houses to foreigners proposed by Compromís

The president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, has opposed this Wednesday the amendment presented by Compromís in the Senate to the Housing Law, by which the Valencian formation proposes to prohibit the sale of homes to foreign individuals or companies, with some exceptions , for three years.

Puig, during an act with businessmen from the Alicante region of Vega Baja, has assured that the Consell, of which Compromís is also a part, "does not accept" this amendment and that "he does not agree with it", sources from the Council

Thus, the president of the Generalitat and socialist candidate for the Presidency of the Generalitat in these upcoming elections has been resounding assuring that this measure presented by Compromís "will not prosper", in statements made in Vega Baja, one of the regions of the Community with the highest percentage of foreign residential tourism.

Puig made these statements after learning of the statement issued this Tuesday by Compromís, in which it specified that it had presented an amendment to prohibit the sale of homes to foreign individuals or companies, with some exceptions, for three years to avoid speculation.

To achieve this, Compromís claimed in that amendment a 36-month moratorium from the entry into force of the Housing Law on the sale of real estate to natural or legal persons who do not have Spanish nationality for one year before the operation.

Foreigners with a work permit in Spain for at least three years before, exiles or refugees and citizens with temporary resident status valid for at least five months before, as well as entities whose objective is the social use of the real estate.

The senator of Compromís Carles Mulet pointed out in the statement that the Housing Law represents progress, but in his opinion it needs to strengthen control of "vulture funds", speculation or tourist apartments.

The Housing Law was approved on April 27 in Congress and is currently in the amendment period in the Senate, which is open until May 4 to receive proposals.
