Representatives of the PSC, ERC, Junts, Comuns and CUP have signed a pact under the slogan "Unity against the extreme right" in which they undertake "not to legitimize" neither Vox nor the Catalan Alliance, to reject in any case their votes to achieve majorities in Parliament and prevent their initiatives from prospering.
Alícia Romero (PSC), Lluís Mijoler (Comunes-Sumar), David Caño (CUP), Najat Driouech (ERC) and Gloria Freixa (Junts-Carles Puigdemont) have signed the manifesto promoted by Unity against Fascism and Racism towards the next legislature in the Parliament to "close the way" to the ultra-right after 12-M.
“We will not accept, neither by action nor by omission, the votes of any extreme right-wing formation to form an eventual investiture majority or, obviously, of the Government,” the text points out.
Furthermore, they undertake to establish the necessary agreements to prevent the presence of the extreme right in the Parliament Table, the commission tables and to not subscribe to any parliamentary initiative from Vox and Aliança Catalana.
Likewise, they say that they will reach agreements to, "whenever possible", avoid the presence of far-right formations in the appointments that the institutional set of the Generalitat such as the Parliament, the Government, and institutions such as the Sindicatura de Greuges, among other.
Various polls published in recent days suggest that Vox will maintain its seats in the Catalan Chamber - in the last elections it obtained 11 deputies - and Aliança Catalana could enter with between 1 and 3 seats.
After the signing of the agreement at the headquarters of Lafede-organizations for Social Justice, in Barcelona, the political representatives have shown themselves satisfied with renewing the pact that they have already been applying against Vox in the last legislature and will now be extended, if it has seats in the new Parliament, to Aliança Catalana.
Romero (PSC) recalled that his party's commitment against the extreme right is "unequivocal" and that if the Catalans give them their trust they will form a Government with the support of democratic forces.
Along the same lines, Freixa has pointed out that, as the granddaughter of Republicans, “she is clear about the danger of fascism” and has highlighted that Junts always joins these pacts when they are “invited.”
Driouech, for his part, stated: “In the same way that ultras attack people like me, in the future they may do the same with your children, for example for loving people of the same sex.”
Asked if they would prefer to repeat elections than accept the abstention of the extreme right to form a Government, PSC, ERC and Junts have indicated that they trust not to be in that dilemma and that they hope that these formations will not even get a seat.
