Practical guide to not run out of summer sports camps in Madrid

The Community of Madrid has already launched its call for summer camps: there are 3,000 places for children and adolescents to practice different sports in three public sports facilities: the Puerta de Hierro sports park, Canal de Isabel II and San Vicente de Paul.

Most of them will be taught in the last week of June and during the month of July, although some courses will last until September 1.

You can register on the Community of Madrid page. The allocation of places will be made in order of request. The courses are taught by professionals from the different sports federations in the region. Among the sports that can be practiced are athletics, basketball, baseball, karate, paddle tennis, skating, canoeing, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon or volleyball. In addition, you can take rescue and first aid courses.

Prices vary depending on the sport chosen and whether the student stays to eat or not. For example, practicing baseball in San Vicente Paul costs 100 euros with food from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or 85 euros without food until 2 p.m. That same sport in the Puerta del Hierro facility rises to 120 euros per student if you use the dining room service or 105 euros if you do not stay to eat. While doing water sports, especially canoeing, in Puerta del Hierro, costs 185 euros a week and 340 euros a fortnight. In addition, there are discounts for single-parent and large families as long as they prove these conditions in some of the courses.

The activities are aimed at children and adolescents from 4 to 16 years old. And the objective is to promote sport and its values, as well as promote work-life balance during school holidays.

With the arrival of the summer holidays, many families are looking for camps so that their sons and daughters can attend a camp for a week, a fortnight or a whole month with the aim of being able to reconcile while the parents' long-awaited vacation arrives.

In the Community of Madrid there are several options. In addition to those 3,000 places that the Community of Madrid has already offered, there will soon be public calls from the City Councils. One of the most demanded offers are those of the City Council of the capital, which offers biweekly courses in public schools. Later, different consistories also offer places for those registered in their municipalities.

Although it seems that there is a long time left, families are already making reservations in certain camps so as not to run out of places. Some subsidized schools, such as Estudiantes, offer specialized basketball camps, one of their most qualified sports practices. Or private entities have also launched their calls. This is the case of the company Educosport.es that offers sports camps at the San Fernando Institute, on the road to Colmenar Viejo (past Montecarmelo) or in Ciudad Jarama, in the municipality of Algete. It even offers one with a multi-adventure overnight stay from June 26 to July 2 in Los Molinos de Cercedilla or custom camps for urbanizations. In addition, some public, subsidized and private schools organize their own camps with external companies.
