PP and Vox recover Spanish for the Mallorca Awards for literary creation, some awards created almost 20 years ago by the Consell de Mallorca, an institution that will now be governed by the two parties. The two formations have reached an agreement whereby Llorenç Galmés (PP) will preside over the institution and Pedro Bestard (Vox) will occupy the vice-presidency and will also have environmental powers. Bestard was, until a few days ago, the president of the Hunting Federation.
The agreement between the two formations is reflected in a document with more than 180 points, including the decision that works in Spanish can be presented to the literary prizes. The deadline to present the works in this edition ends on August 1, so the current bases will remain in force in this edition. They state that the purpose of these prizes is to promote literary creation in the Catalan language, something that will now change.
The prizes have a global endowment of 79,000 euros in various modalities: narrative, poetry, essay, theatrical texts and illustrated children's literature. The Mallorca Narrative Prize became the best endowed in the Catalan language in the entire State. The document agreed by PP and Vox indicates that, from now on, works can be presented in both languages. It also adds that all regulations that involve a "linguistic imposition" will be eliminated in the Consell. It has also been agreed that the insular direction of Language Policy be eliminated.
Another agreement that the two parties have reached affects the celebration of the Majorca Day, which will once again be on September 12, the date on which the oath of Jaume II of the Charter of Franqueses i Privilegis of Majorca in 1276 is commemorated. This was the initial date for the celebration of the Diada, but the pact of the left that has governed the institution in the last eight years modified it so that it would be celebrated on December 31, the date on which the Catalan conquest of the island is commemorated .
Vox will also have a presence in the government of the Consell de Menorca, where there will be a position from this political formation that has not yet been closed, although it could be responsible for housing. Abascal's party got a minister in Menorca, which is key to giving a majority to a right-wing pact. The president of the Consell de Menorca will be Adolfo Vilafranca, from the PP.
Vox's entry into these two island governments has been interpreted as a concession by the president in pectore of the Balearic Islands, Marga Prohens, to be able to govern alone on the islands without Vox members in the Balearic Executive. Prohens has already submitted to the first investiture vote, which has not gone ahead because Vox abstained. This Thursday the session will resume and Prohens will be elected president since a simple majority is enough for her, guaranteed with the abstention of Vox.
