PP and Vox eliminate the Valencian exam in the oppositions for the Elx city council

The councilor for Human Resources of the Elx city council, José Navarro, announced this morning the suppression of the Valencian exercise in the municipal opposition exams. “Valencian will no longer count as a requirement and will become a merit like the rest of the languages,” the mayor declared.

According to the person in charge of the area, there is no legal requirement that indicates the need for this exercise in competitive examinations, so with this suppression we want to “exercise the principle of equality when opting for places, in addition to speeding up the selective processes to the maximum.” The PP, the party to which Navarro belongs, governs the Elche city council in coalition with Vox.

Navarro has stated that this Tuesday the general board will meet with the unions. The objective, he said, is “to establish what happens with the point of the Valencian exam, if it is decided to remove it or increase the rest proportionally.”

On the other hand, future selection processes will introduce the skills adequacy test, in addition to the evaluation of knowledge. The next step is to define the evaluation criteria. In the words of the Human Resources councilor, it is about “adapting to the reality of the 21st century.”

According to the city council, the measure has gone ahead without any vote against in the meeting held with the unions; the Independent Union has voted in favor, while CCOO, UGT and CSIF have abstained.
