Not even in the best of his dreams did Portu imagine making his debut with Girona giving his team victory against Las Palmas with a goal practically at the last minute. The day after his signing, Míchel gave him the opportunity to play the last quarter of an hour, taking over for Tsygankov – the only one of the three reinforcements made on the last market day that had minutes – and Portu took advantage of it by giving three points more to a Girona that continues without losing, consolidated in the classification part and installed on top of a cloud from which it does not want to come down.
A victory that left the arbitration controversy in the background due to the various decisions made during the match by Busquets Ferrer, who made his debut in Montilivi as a First Division referee. Among them, two goals disallowed by Stuani, one for offside and another for a foul prior to a corner kick that the VAR invalidated. The same Stuani who in the preview of the game had posted an enigmatic message on social networks that most interpreted as it could be his last game in Montilivi before a succulent offer from Saudi Arabia. At the moment, however, the Uruguayan continues to receive the affection of the Girona public, who acclaimed him on more than one occasion.
The striker returned to captain the team in which, for the third consecutive game, Míchel bet on the same 11, asserting the premise that when things are going well it is better not to touch them too much.
However, Las Palmas came out better as in minute 2 they already had the first opportunity to score after Pejiño beat the local defense and Gazzaniga rejected it with his foot. Girona's response was immediate and in the following play one of the sensations of this start, Savinho, put Álvaro Vallés to the test with a shot with almost no angle. Minutes later, the winger tried again on the right, with a different leg, but the Canarian goalkeeper was once again providential. Occasions that served for the locals to control the game and search for the goal even more zealously, largely thanks to the danger created by Savinho and Tsygankov on the wings. In another controversial play, Montilivi claimed some hands from Julian Araújo that the referee did not see either. And in the midst of this tense climate, Araújo himself would also have been able to advance to Las Palmas if Gazzaniga had not thrown a hand.
In the last minutes and in this quest to break the tie, Míchel made the five changes in a quarter of an hour and Portu, after a combination play, picked up a ball masterfully left by Yan Couto to confirm his return through the big door against a Montilivi who surrendered at his feet.
