Police shoot woman for threatening passengers on Paris train while shouting 'Allah is great'

The French police seriously injured a woman in Paris on Tuesday who, according to witnesses, made threatening comments and shouted 'Allah Akbar' on a commuter train, the AFP agency learned from police sources.

The police were alerted by calls from several passengers who reported that a woman "completely covered with a veil" was "uttering threats" on a train that was circulating through the outskirts, a police source explained.

According to these witnesses, she "uttered Allah Akbar several times" until the police managed to "isolate" her at the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand station in Paris, which was quickly evacuated.

The woman "refused to comply with police orders" and threatened "to blow herself up," both the Prosecutor's Office and the police source have detailed. A police officer then fired once, seriously wounding the woman. “The woman's vital prognosis is reserved,” the Prosecutor's Office stated about her state of health.

At the moment, two investigations have been opened. On the one hand, the Parisian judicial police investigate “death threats and acts of intimidation against a holder of public authority.” And, on the other hand, the General Inspection of the National Police (IGPN) will investigate the police force and the shooting by the police officer, as happens when an agent uses his firearm.

Following the murder of a teacher in Arras (North) on October 13 by a young man classified for Islamist radicalization since February 2021, France went on “emergency attack” alert.

This murder once again plunged France into fear of Islamist attacks and led public authorities to reinforce anti-terrorist security measures, in a context already marked by fears related to the repercussions of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
