Pointing is ugly and also a mistake

Miriam Nogueras, the spokesperson for Junts in Congress, freely attacked the Spanish justice system. They were not just generic attacks, but he also pointed out during his speech in the Chamber the president of the Criminal Chamber, Manuel Marchena, and several judges of the Supreme Court, such as Carlos Lesmes (former president of the High Court), Pablo Llarena, Carmen Lamela or Concepción Espejel, whom he described as “indecent” and “complicit in the politicization of justice.” She called the brothers Francisco and Diego Pérez de los Cobos, former president of the Constitutional Court and colonel of the Civil Guard the other, “dark characters” who participated in the judicial war (lawfare) against the independentists.

Such a beating had not been seen in Congress and, from the outset, it led the current president of the Supreme Court, Francisco Marín Castán, to suspend the meeting he had planned for the same day with Félix Bolaños, Minister of Justice and Relations with the Cortes. It is not that Bolaños thought the same as the representative, nor that he agreed with his words, on the contrary. But JxCat's status as a partner of the Government meant that Marín Castán wanted to show his displeasure with Nogueras's intervention. In any case, they will see each other on the 19th, because it is not the case of over-braking and increasing tensions either.

This pointing out is ugly, but in many cases it is also an irreparable error. Pittacus of Mytilene, who was one of the seven wise men of Greece, wrote in the temple of Apollo at Delphi: “You must not speak ill of anyone, not even your enemies.” But the world has supposed wise men (and wise men) who have not come to look good, but to blow everyone up. In the midst of the amnesty debate, the sensible thing would be to measure words carefully, without having to compromise on concepts. It is no coincidence that the public accusation was not only rejected by the conservative associations of judges and prosecutors, but also by the progressive ones. Getting great can mean a minute of glory and a hundred of ordeal. And there is no oven for buns, nor can politics exceed the cooking point. Arguiñano says it.
