Pescaíto night and thousands of lights: everything you need to know about the opening of the April Fair

April. Seville is now ready for the start of its Fair, one of the most important events of the year in the city of Seville and a party that attracts thousands of tourists and curious people who want to live the experience like an authentic local. And there is very little left until the lights turn on and the ruffles and polka dot dresses take over the streets of Real.

Although the official inauguration will take place at 00:00 on Sunday, April 14, when the 'Alumbrao' takes place, the truth is that a few hours before the Real is filled with life. On Saturday, April 13, the members of the booths have the custom of gathering in their plots around tables full of food and drink to celebrate the typical 'Cena del Pescaíto'. For most Sevillians, this moment is the start of a week of celebration and fun.

On the other hand, Aemet has announced that the weather will accompany the fairgrounds with pleasant temperatures and no rain, good news for hoteliers who have good economic forecasts.

Dishes of fried fish, as well as sausages, cheeses and shrimp; jugs of beers, rebujito, wines and soft drinks. They are the products that cannot be missing from a good table worth its salt during the 'Cena del Pescaíto', which marks the unofficial start of the April Fair in Seville. During this night, prior to the lighting of the Cover, the members of the booths have an important appointment, a moment of reunion where joy and the desire to have a good time are present in every corner of the Real.

They say that this tradition goes back to the custom of the cassette makers of eating a cone of fried fish after setting up the cassettes. As a result, year after year, this idea was 'copied' and, as a tribute, the members celebrate this meal shortly before all eyes are on the lights of the Front Page.

It is one of the best preserved architectures of the '29 Expo and whose installation is occupied by the Museum of Popular Traditions and Customs of Seville. On the 95th anniversary of this historic milestone for the city, the artist Davide Gambini wanted to bring this monument to the Cover, where the logos of the National Police and Cruzcampo will also appear for its 120th anniversary.

Specifically, the structure projects two lateral viewing towers with hipped roofs and a central body articulated on two levels. It consists of 25,000 LED bulbs, 30,500 meters of tube and 3,700 square meters of paneling, which make up an entrance to the Real that is 47 meters wide, 39 meters high and 6 meters deep.

The main door of the Fair will be illuminated at 00:00 on April 14, marking the starting point of a full week of sevillanas, flamencas, short dresses and horses. It will not be until Saturday, April 20, when a fireworks show ends the event and, with this, the booths will be dismantled and the esplanade in Los Remedios will be left empty until next April.
