Periche focuses on reducing its environmental impact

With more than 50 years of history, the Catalan firm of hair care products Periche Profesional has placed sustainability at the center of its business decisions. Its advances to reduce its environmental impact go beyond prioritizing the use of natural ingredients in its formulations or implementing renewable energies. The company's commitment to the reuse of packaging, very rare in the sector, or the implementation of actions to reduce its carbon footprint, stands out.

"We are convinced of the need to apply these improvements, even if it means sacrificing part of the margin, since it is a legacy that we must leave to future generations," says Pere Periche, executive director and owner of this family business based in Barcelona.

The production center that the company has in Montcada i Reixac, with nearly 4,000 m², works entirely with renewable energies. On the other hand, with the aim of minimizing its carbon footprint, Periche Profesional prioritizes purchasing from local suppliers. The company's other great crusade is against the generation of waste. For this reason, they propose "the reuse of packaging by the customer, some packaging that is already manufactured with 75% biodegradable products and some of which contain up to 97% recycled plastic," says Pere Periche, son of the founder. of the company.

The firm, which specializes in hair color and for sale to professionals, is also redoubling its commitment to natural ingredients and what is known as honest cosmetics. “At the beginning of the pandemic we launched Welnig Organic, a range of sanitizing cosmetic products with natural biocides. At the end of 2021, we will present the Tempting Professional Chameleonik range, a vegan line of pigments made with 100% natural oils. And, in September, we expanded Tempting with a new sustainable luxury line with 100% vegan ingredients”, explains Pere Periche.

In reference to honest cosmetics, the executive director points out that it is based on less is more: "We create products with more than one property instead of creating more references." According to Periche, it is about “beautifying ourselves inside and out, gaining in well-being”.

With a staff of 34 people, Periche Profesional exports 55% of its production and its turnover exceeds four million euros. The company began international expansion in the year 2000 and is currently present in 23 markets. Nothing to do with the small hydrogen peroxide laboratory that was born in 1969 in the Sant Andreu neighborhood of Barcelona.
