This is one of the moments in which the three members of the Court of Appeals for the Fourth District of Florida, based in West Palm, left a gap for Pablo Ibar, imprisoned since 1994 as the author of the murders of Casimir Sucharski, owner of a nightclub, and two models, Sharon Anderson and Marie Rogers.
Ibar, son of a pelotari who emigrated to Miami and grandson of Urtain, heavyweight champion, has always pleaded not guilty. After almost a lifetime behind bars – 50 years old, he has spent nearly 30 in prison, of which 16 were on death row – his lawyer, Joe Nascimento, requested the annulment of the life sentence and the celebration of a new trial. It would be the fourth oral hearing, after one void and two convictions.
“For all these years he has been deprived of the essential right to a fair trial after the Florida Supreme Court reversed the verdict and death sentence in 2016,” the defender stressed.
