One person died and 11 were injured when a tour bus they were traveling in overturned north of Albany, the capital of New York state, forcing the partial closure of Interstate 87, which begins in the south and ends in the border with Canada.

There were 23 passengers in the vehicle, including the driver, who were returning from Montreal (Canada) to New York City when the accident occurred, according to a statement from the State Police, which carried out the rescue efforts together with personnel from the Department of Transportation.

The Police also indicated that there is one passenger with serious injuries and another ten with minor injuries, who were taken to area hospitals. He also asked for the cooperation of any witnesses to the accident, or those who had filmed the bus, to assist in the investigation.

The governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, reported the accident and the closure of I-87 in a statement and on her social networks.

"I join the people of New York in praying for the well-being of all those involved in this horrific incident and am deeply grateful for the heroic efforts of our emergency workers," Hochul said in the statement.

The Police had also warned on their X account (formerly Twitter) about the closure on I-87 southbound due to a "serious" accident.
