An agriculture professor from Minnesota has been the winner of the contest for the heaviest giant pumpkin: Goliath, the name of the winner, weighs 1,246 kilos and thanks to it, Travis Gienger, its "owner", has won $30,000.

An agriculture professor from Minnesota has been the winner of the contest for the heaviest giant pumpkin: Goliath, the name of the winner, weighs 1,246 kilos and thanks to it, Travis Gienger, its "owner", has won $30,000. He grew the winning pumpkin himself last year.

The World Pumpkin Lifting Championships are held every year in California, and on this occasion the contest was in its 50th year. This year's winner drove the gigantic pumpkin from Minnesota, on a 33-hour journey in tow of his car.
