Nadal announces that he will not play in Madrid

Rafa Nadal's ordeal with his psoas injury continues and after being forced to withdraw from Monte Carlo and Barcelona, he also announces that he will not be in Madrid next week. The Spanish tennis player has been working on a recovery that has not yet arrived for almost four months and that is why he has decided to change the treatment.

"The injury still hasn't healed and I can't work what I need to compete," he explained in a video addressed to the fans. "I was training, but now a few days ago we decided to change course a little, do another treatment and see if things improve," says the man from Manacor, who does not want to set a date for his return: "I cannot give deadlines because if I knew them I would tell you but I don't know. This is the current situation ”, has been sincere.

Nadal acknowledges that "they have been a few difficult weeks and months" and that his psoas injury, which "had to be six to eight weeks" of recovery, "is already fourteen." “The reality is that the situation is not what we would have expected. All medical indications have been followed, but somehow the evolution has not been what they initially told us and we find ourselves in a difficult situation ”, he explains.

The Spanish tennis player has regretted having to miss "tournaments that are the most important" of his career. To date, he has had to give up Monte Carlo and Barcelona and has already confirmed that he will not be able to be in Madrid either: "I also want to send a special greeting to all the Madrid and Spanish public because I will have missed the two tournaments that are played here in home. You all know what it means to me to play these tournaments and in this case in Madrid that I won't be able to play it with everything it has given me”.

Finally, Nadal assures that he will maintain "the right mentality" in these difficult moments and will work on his recovery to try to have "the opportunity to compete in one of the remaining tournaments of the clay season." After the Madrid tournament, the next big events on Rafa Nadal's calendar are the Masters 1000 Rome (May 8-15) and Roland Garros (May 22-June 5).
