More frost than water on the Ges river

I have taken these photographs for La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos of the Ges river, which flows with little water through Torelló, in Osona, and, however, the trace of frost can be seen on its banks.

Frost is a meteorological phenomenon that consists of a drop in ambient temperature to levels below the freezing point of water and causes the water or vapor in the air to freeze, depositing it in the form of ice on surfaces, such as It can be seen in the vegetation around the Ges River.

The Ges River is a tributary of the Ter that rises in the Sierra de Santa Magdalena, in the region of Osona, and flows out after 19 kilometers in a southwesterly direction, after passing through the city of Torelló.

The importance of this river lies in its valley, the Ges, which has given rise to the Ges, Orís and Bisaura Valley Consortium, formed by nine municipalities, some of them outside the river basin itself.

However, the river continues to have very little water compared to what it usually has at this time of year, as a result of the persistent drought in Catalonia in 2023.

Next to the river Ges there is a path that follows its course and intertwines with the towns of Torelló and Vidrà, passing through such emblematic places as Fontsanta or Forat Micó.
