Montseny fountains without a drop of water

Water is traditionally an abundant commodity in the Montseny Natural Park massif, as reflected in the large number of sources scattered throughout the territory. There is a minimum of 600 (1 source/km2). But, the persistent drought that Catalonia is suffering is also affecting these springs, as can be seen in this photographic report in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.

In these images we see three fountains from which not a drop of water falls and two from which only a trickle of water flows. Not an optimistic situation.

Most of the Montseny springs are accessed via tracks (64%); In 23% of cases the basic access is by road and the remaining 13% can only be accessed by trails.

On the other hand, 61% of the sources can be accessed by car up to the foot or very close (75% by SUV). Only 9% of sources (four from the Santa Fe Valley) can be reached by public transport, although only on Sundays and holidays.

Most of the sources (80%) have natural or artificial barriers that make it impossible for people with reduced mobility to approach them from the access road.
