Mónica, the woman rescued with her children in Aldea del Fresno: "No one warned us of the danger"

Mónica Navarro, the mother of a family whose vehicle fell into the river in the Madrid municipality of Aldea del Fresno, has denied in a letter on FaceBook, the version of a Twitter user who identifies himself as a forest firefighter, in which he defended that he had warned them of the danger.

The woman, who was saved along with her two children, but her husband Manuel López died, after the car in which the four were traveling was swept away by heavy rain, explains in the aforementioned letter, which is collected by Telemadrid, that "at no time did they warn us of danger".

The family's intention was to return to the municipality of Alcorcón, where they have their usual residence, when it seemed that the rains had subsided. The family has their second home in Aldea del Fresno, a municipality where they usually go on weekends.

In her writing, she thanks the work of all the staff who have worked intensely in the search for her husband. This is how its text begins: "With the little strength that I have left, I want to express my deepest gratitude for the work and disproportionate effort that ALL the Rescue Teams and State Security Forces have carried out, as well as all the volunteers who "You participated in the search for my husband."

Later, he explains how they exchanged opinions with the driver of another vehicle and continued on their way. In a few seconds, his car was caught by the strong flood and swept away by the flood, causing it to fall off the road.

It must be remembered that on that fateful Sunday for this family, a message was sent to the citizens of Madroid to be at home due to the expected heavy rains.

The profile of the X account (formerly Twitter) has disappeared, but it had initially posted videos and images of the municipality of Aldea del Fresno, which has about 3,200 residents.

The deceased López was 47 years old and was an architect. His wife insists in the letter that at no time did they want to endanger the lives of his children, since "any father or mother knows that the most valuable thing they have in his life are his children." The 14-year-old girl was rescued the same night from the rains, but the 10-year-old son spent the entire night climbing a tree, until the next morning, he was found next to the Alberche River.

Monica explains that "from the beginning of our trip back home, we tried to make the most prudent decisions. We left once the news reported that the worst had passed, without rain and with extreme caution." To which she adds: "Unfortunately the trip became complicated for us and for the rest of the drivers in Aldea del Fresno, when the pools of water, the landslide and the branches were more than evident throughout the road."
