Madrid leaves the Puerta de Alcalá outside the Formula 1 exhibition route

The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has appealed to the "balance point" between the defense of heritage and the opportunity that removing the Puerta de Alcalá from the route of the exhibition of the circuit of Formula 1 vehicles Red Bull Showrun Madrid 2023, which is held this Saturday from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

In this way, the route will be shortened so as not to run through part of the Paisaje de la Luz protected by Unesco and will draw an L between Paseo de Recoletos and Calle de Alcalá. starting and ending at the foot of the Cibeles Town Hall.

From the Canalejas mobility hub and accompanied by the number one PP to the Senate for Madrid and national deputy secretary for Autonomous and Local Coordination, Pedro Rollán, Almeida has transferred to the press that the City Council has tried to "generate the best conditions for an exhibition of these characteristics can be carried out".

This happens "logically to preserve important heritage spaces, the most important in the city of Madrid", which has resulted in "last-minute technical adjustments that allow (the exhibition) to bypass the Puerta de Alcalá".

And that will take place "without detracting from the exhibition, which is an opportunity" for the city. "I encourage all those who want to witness it to come to the center of the city of Madrid tomorrow afternoon," he said.

"I believe that, as always, we must all find ourselves at the midpoint. There is a balance between heritage protection" and the fact that "this type of activity, which is the image of Madrid in the world, can be carried out ", declared the mayor.

The exhibition will force cuts and traffic restrictions and conditions both in pedestrian and motorized mobility, both in EMT buses and in the entrance and exit of surrounding municipal parking lots.

The Madrid City Council has prepared a special mobility plan in view of the expected massive influx of public to the event, some 50,000 people, who will join a special device of Municipal Police and Mobility Agents.

The North Retiro Neighborhood Association has applauded on its social networks that people avoid going through the Puerta de Alcalá, next to the Retiro, a "change in the right direction". They thank the mayor and the government spokesperson, deputy mayor and delegate for Security and Emergencies, Inmaculada Sanz, who have been "sensitive" and hope "that a Master Plan for the Landscape of Light will be available very soon".
