Macarena Olona, the bitter taste of disappointment

Macarena Olona is leaving politics by medical prescription to face, as she has said, an important personal challenge incompatible with media exposure and the seat in the Andalusian Parliament, which she joined with the bitter taste of disappointment for not having been able to fulfill your party's expectations.

Her incursion into the Andalusian elections had a strong impact in all areas, favored by the fame of being a fighter and a scourge of ministers that the woman from Alicante had already earned in her interventions in the sessions of control of the Government in Congress.

For three years as a national deputy for Granada, she led the Vox parliamentary group with a heavy hand together with her spokesman, Iván Espinosa, her political supporter and with whom she always showed great harmony in public, and led the majority of the numerous complaints brought by the party before the Constitutional Court, given her status as State attorney since 2009.

A leading role in Madrid that served to lead the candidacy for the Andalusian Government and with which Vox intended that its success be the prelude to victory in the general elections.

The appointment of Olona, questioned for having registered only a few months before in the Granada town of Salobreña, was initially seen as a threat to the popular Juanma Moreno, who came to say in the campaign that she would be delighted to have him as vice president. .

But the "macarenazo", as his people liked to say, did not come and, although he managed to keep the party growing to 14 deputies -two more than in 2018-, it was far from what was expected by the leader of the formation, Santiago Abascal, who ventured 26 seats for his candidacy.

"I managed to conclude the last Andalusian electoral campaign", he wrote this Friday in his farewell letter, and he did advance, but he did not manage to make Vox decisive in the Andalusian Parliament or therefore condition the Government of Moreno, who repeated as president, but this time with a surprising absolute majority that no longer needed Abascal's men at all.

Despite the disappointment of losing political relevance, Olona reiterated day after day that he would stay in Andalusia and that, just as throughout his 43 years he had lived without problem in other areas of Spain, now his future was in Andalusian lands .

Olona was the chief lawyer of the State in the Basque Country between 2012 and 2017, a stage in which, among other matters, she legally filed appeals against paying homage to ETA prisoners. After this journey, she arrived at the general secretariat of Mercasa, a public company that provides services to the entire food chain and in which she had to investigate illegal commissions worth up to 20 million euros. Just before joining the ranks of Vox, she worked at the Sepides State Public Society, after which she began her political life.

His legal work allowed the party to be successful in the courts of unconstitutionality appeals that ended up overturning the decrees on the Government's state of alarm or the closure of the Courts during the pandemic.

Along with this facet, his scuffles with United Podemos ministers such as Yolanda Díaz or Irene Montero, whom he liked to call "communist ministers", have been notorious, without abandoning in his interventions the bit of theatricality that he has also put in his approaches to Andalusian society, its traditions and festivals.

A unique approach in which many see the explanation for the result in the elections of this mother of a three-year-old boy who defines herself as a "free, Spanish, mother, daughter, sister and Andalusian" woman and who now faces what, surely , will be another of the greatest challenges of your life.

"I thought that my will alone would be enough, but health does not understand commitments and, now, I must face an important personal challenge by medical prescription", explained Olona, who has not given more details about it, although he has advanced that as soon as possible, she will continue with her vocation of public service as State Attorney.
