Looks at the Medes Islands

In La Vanguardia Readers' Photos we can see several views of L'Estartit, captured with the mobile phone, with the Medes Islands as protagonists.

The snapshot of the empty sun loungers was taken after a night with quite a lot of waves looking towards this emblematic archipelago of the Mediterranean, on the Costa Brava, made up of seven small islands and some islets.

Las Medas are declared a Specially Protected Area of importance for the Mediterranean. It is one of the most important and largest maritime reserves in Catalonia.

These wild islands, located just 900 meters from the coast of L'Estartit and protected for more than 20 years, are a true paradise for scuba diving or boat trips. Its main attraction lies in the richness and diversity of the marine and terrestrial fauna and flora that it houses.

They had formerly been the preferred hiding place for pirates and, later, they were used by the Army as a surveillance place. They were inhabited until 1934, but currently the only construction is the Meda Gran lighthouse, the protagonist of the other image, captured one morning with low clouds.

In the snapshot you can see the port breakwater perfectly, but the fog only allows you to see the top of the Meda Gran.
