Living on chattel income: "I get more than a thousand euros a month renting my motorcycles"

Real estate rental is one of the most common forms of investment in Spain. But it is less common, especially for ordinary citizens, to earn income by leasing movable property, that is, cars, motorcycles, bikes, consoles and a long etcetera. A way to earn extra money that is on the rise driven by the proliferation of online platforms that make it possible.

Although getting to earn a living through this activity is not easy, it can leave attractive returns, as is the case with car and motorcycle rentals. Yago, a user of the Momoven platform, decided to start leasing a Ducati that he hardly used anymore. "With a single motorcycle he earned between 400 and 600 euros in the summer months, but with six he earned more than 1,000 euros," he explains on the "Pocket" podcast, where he analyzes the pros and cons of this activity.

Strong demand and technology facilitate this type of transaction, in which car rental is the most popular. "In a city like Madrid in the summer period with the car available 80% of the month you can get from 600 to 1,000 euros depending on the model," says Alberto Bajjali (Amovens). A benefit that is not only economic, but also environmental, since it contributes to optimizing and extending the useful life of the products, as stated by Enrique García (OCU), who clarifies what type of guarantees the consumer has when renting from another individual.
