'L'oreneta' and 'Singing in the rain' sweep the Butaca awards

The pain, forgiveness and love of L'oreneta by Guillem Clua and the humor and elegance of the musical Singing in the rain directed by Àngel Llàcer and Manu Guix have swept this year's Butaca awards, the awards for the performing arts elected by popular vote.

'L'oreneta' and 'Singing in the rain' sweep the Butaca awards

The pain, forgiveness and love of L'oreneta by Guillem Clua and the humor and elegance of the musical Singing in the rain directed by Àngel Llàcer and Manu Guix have swept this year's Butaca awards, the awards for the performing arts elected by popular vote. Guillem Clua's work has won the five main awards -best theatrical production, text, director, actress and actor- although in total number of statuettes he has been ahead of him Singing in the rain, which has won eight, including best musical and musical actor and actress.

Inspired by the homophobic attack on a nightclub in Orlando in 2016, in L'oreneta, Mrs. Amèlia, a singing teacher, welcomes a man into her home who wants to improve his vocal technique to sing at his mother's memorial. Some characters played by Emma Vilarasau and Dafnis Balduz who have been awarded as best performers of the year while Josep Maria Mestres won the award for best director and Guillem Clua for best text.

The awards for the best supporting actors of the season went to David Bagés, for Ionesco's Macbett directed by Ramon Simó at the TNC and to Míriam Iscla for the adaptation of Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment by Pau Carrió. The breakthrough actress was Emma Arquillué for Romeo and Juliet and the breakthrough actor Guillem Balart for the same play and two others: Carrer Robadors and Hamlet Aribau. Andreu Gallén has won the Chair for musical composition for I love you if I've drunk.

In dance, Rojos, a piece by Miquel Barcelona that wants to recover the memory of clandestine life during the repression after the civil war through artistic figures, creative women and the homosexual movement, has been awarded best show of the year and best performer, the Miquel Barcelona himself, while Sònia Gómez has won the Butaca for best choreography for The black body, the blue mind and the fluorescent guts. The best dancer was Laia Duran for La honte by Lisi Estaras. The Anna Lizaran Honorary Seat has been for the actor Jordi Banacolocha.
