Kareem Abdul-Jabbar fractures his hip and will have to undergo surgery

Former NBA player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, legend of the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers, was hospitalized in Los Angeles after fracturing his hip in a fall while attending a concert, according to the American media 'TMZ' this Saturday, citing to the former athlete's representative, Deborah Morales.

Abdul-Jabbar, 76, attended a concert on Friday and, after suffering a fall, was rushed to the UCLA hospital where doctors are taking care of him, the source said. The former player will have to undergo surgery for the aforementioned fracture.

The six-time NBA champion, once with the Bucks and five with the Lakers, expressed "deep gratitude" for the way he is being cared for, Morales said.

Abdul-Jabbar is the second leading scorer in the NBA (38,387 points) and his mark was surpassed last February by Lakers star LeBron James.
