Is there more fog in Barcelona?

In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we can see this spectacular image that I captured from the plane. It is the city of Barcelona and the entire coastline covered in fog.

The magic of the fog leaves us with this wonderful postcard, but the truth is that the coincidence in a short time of images of the Catalan capital under the fog opens a meteorological question mark. Are there more episodes of fog in Barcelona?

Most fog is produced by evaporating moisture from the ground, but it can come from water vapor expelled by vegetation or by bodies of fresh or salt water. And Barcelona is bathed by the Mediterranean Sea.

We talk about fog when it comes to the condensation of moisture in the air but still in suspension, in the form of drops of water and these drops of water are not large enough for the force of Earth's gravity to make them precipitate, as it is the case of rain.

In meteorology, it refers to the suspension of small water droplets that produce a visibility of less than 1 km. It is a phenomenon that consists of very low clouds, near or at ground level and formed by small volume water particles in suspension.

But, in addition, in Barcelona, there are more and more episodes of haze, a meteorological phenomenon that occurs in the presence of Saharan dust in the atmosphere.

The disappearance of the haze is conditioned by changes in atmospheric pressure, which can give rise to wind or rain.

The immediate effect produced by the haze, always depending on its density, produces a decrease in visibility as well as slight discomfort in the eyes, nose and throat.

In addition, it is advisable not to expose yourself and protect yourself from the haze if you have respiratory problems such as asthma or even allergies.
