Ion Aramendi: “My wife is the best person I know, the smartest and with whom I have the best time”

The house of Guadalix, sanctum of the mother of all reality shows, reopens its doors tonight. Telecinco returns Big Brother to prime time in its VIP version, betting on two more recent presenters: Marta Flich and Ion Aramendi (San Sebastián, 1977). The Basque journalist is not new to these issues: his service record already includes the debate on Nightmare in Paradise and Survivors. That is why he is less nervous than the contestants of this eighth edition: “They are going to face a vital experience that will probably change their lives; I continue to be a transmitter of information but I am extremely excited to face a format that I am a fan of.”

Ion Aramendi, delighted to have Marta Flich as his partner, promises them very happy: “The casting is spectacular, they are people with a lot of experience, names that make people talk. But the fundamental thing, the key to the success of the program is the same as always: one thing is how you enter and another when and how you leave.” He believes that the long history of the GH experiment, broadcast in up to 26 countries, lies in the very essence of the human being: “It is a program of emotions, of mental and psychological analysis in which I put myself in the skin of the participant: How Would I face those relationships, those conflicts? That game fascinates me and for me it is its strong point.”

The network's most historically successful program is a reward for its solid and ascending career – it will be combined with the Chain Reaction competition – and it opens the doors to more professional possibilities. The journalist, with whom we chatted minutes before landing in San Sebastián to sponsor the Moonz children's orthodontic clinic, rests little, works hard and is happy. We will soon see why.

He studied Journalism in Salamanca and not long after his heart was broken. Lost, he packed his suitcase and went as far away as possible. In Australia he made a living as a waiter and returned rebuilt. “It was a rebirth on a personal level. I traveled alone and stayed for a year, somewhat illegally (laughs). I missed my family and friends but I held on. "I believed in love and people again, I trusted myself, I regained my self-esteem, I went back to playing sports... To be who I was before."

That stage today is a bad dream. Married to fellow journalist María Amores for twelve years – he met her in college – he has three children with her. Unlike Ion, she had always remained behind the camera as an editor. But one day he opened his Instagram account to become Generouser and currently hosts his own video podcast on Mtmadt. In addition to his profession, they have in common a huge sense of humor. An example: Marieta, the youngest, was born after a complicated cesarean section and Generouser concluded the story of her experience like this: “If you are a dwarf Chihuahua, do not cross with a large Basque mastiff or you will have puppies beyond your physical capabilities!”

Aramendi is in love with his wife as if he had just met her: “We have a wonderful relationship. María is the best person I know, also the smartest and funniest, and the one I have the best time with. We have been incredibly lucky to have been able to create a great family, with wonderful children. We feel like we are part of a team, we all row for the family. If we have to be on the networks making videos, then why not, if we are proud of what we have created. And naturally. Our children share the sense of humor we have, I laugh a lot with them,” Aramendi explains happily.
