Iceta will be Spain's ambassador to UNESCO

The former Minister of Culture and Sports Miquel Iceta will be the new ambassador of Spain to the Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), based in Paris (France), replacing the also former Minister of Culture José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes.

The Council of Ministers plans to approve this appointment this Tuesday, according to some government sources consulted by Servimedia.

Once Iceta is elected permanent ambassador delegate of Spain to UNESCO, the former leader of the PSC will renounce his role as deputy for Barcelona in the Congress of Deputies.

Iceta left the Executive chaired by Pedro Sánchez for this new mandate after being Minister of Culture and Sports between July 2021 and November 2023 and head of Territorial Policy and Public Function between January and July 2021.

Uribes' team conveyed to Servimedia the good results of the management of recent years in this area, since Spain has remained on the UNESCO Executive Council for fifteen days until 2027, with more votes than ever, more than the US. France, Germany or the United Kingdom, and Spain is a Mondiacult candidate for 2025.
