Hunting for the red fields

Some farmers try to hide the location of the best poppy crops to avoid the tourist invasion of the so-called “bloom tourism”. And it is that this flower looks like never before this spring, as can be seen in the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia.

The poppy has been associated with agriculture since ancient times. Their life cycle is adapted to most cereal crops, they flower and seed before harvesting.

It is an annual cycle plant that can reach more than 50 cm in height. Although it is considered a weed, it is one of the most showy flowers in the spring landscape creating veritable seas of red.

I have been able to see the first large field of poppies in the Empordà. This year it seems that flowering has broken out earlier than other years, the high temperatures of recent weeks have surely helped.

Let me not tell you the exact place, since the owner of this field has asked me not to say the town, otherwise people see it and run to take pictures and spoil their crops.

In this photograph we see the first poppies from Graugés, very close to Berga.
