In the medieval garden of the Pedralbes monastery in Barcelona they have planted thornless blackberries, which I have photographed for this report in La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos.

Its flowers, which we can see in detail in these images, are larger and have more petals. The plant is a shrub, which adapts to all types of soils, although it prefers humid ones.

It has medicinal properties. Its edible fruits are used in jams, cakes and liqueurs. This April they are blooming, they are very attractive to pollinating insects.

The thornless blackberry has few flowers, which are grouped in clusters or solitary. showing off its pink color. We can also see in detail its oval leaves, with serrated edges.

How to eat blackberries without getting pricked by thorns? The answer may be to be careful, but it is surely easier to eat them directly from this variety that does not have a single thorn on its branches.
