Hamas announces the release of two Israeli hostages

Hamas announced this Monday the release of two Israeli women captives for "humanitarian reasons" and in response to Qatari-Egyptian mediation, according to a statement by Abu Ubaida, spokesman for the group's armed wing, on its Telegram channel.

"We freed two captives, Nurit Yitzhak and Yochved Lifshitz," Abu Obeida said in a statement, who assured that their release occurs "for humanitarian reasons." "Despite this, the enemy refused to receive them last Friday," the statement added.

Last week, the Islamist group released two more women, two American hostages for "humanitarian reasons," with the mediation of Qatar, which appears to remain involved in indirect contacts between Israel and Hamas.

The more than two hundred hostages who remain in the hands of the Palestinian militias in Gaza were kidnapped in the Hamas attack on Israeli territory on October 7, which sparked a war that has already entered its third week.

Meanwhile, representatives of the families of hostages taken by Hamas are pleading with the Israeli government to stop the war on Gaza and, instead, negotiate the release of their loved ones.

Highlighting the dire dilemma facing the entire country, other relatives warn that mediation could take years and say their best hope lies with the military, hoping ground forces can find the missing men, women and children before it's too late. late
