Gift of snow in El Puigmal

Puigmal dawned snowy seen from Campdevànol, in Ripollès, this morning as a gift from the Three Kings, as seen in these photographs in La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos.

El Puigmal, in Alta Cerdanya, is the second highest mountain in the province of Girona, with 2914 meters, and is located on the border between Spain and France.

Located between the municipalities of Queralbs (Ripollès) and Err (Alta Cerdanya, Eastern Pyrenees), the Puigmal is the highest of the peaks that make up the so-called Gran Olla that surrounds the Vall de Núria.

It is a wide and rounded top. And its ascent is easy if the weather conditions are not very adverse. At its summit there is a forged iron cross and a plaque with verses by Jacint Verdaguer.

Campdevànol has the landmark of the parish church of Sant Cristòfol, which dates back to the 18th century and was rebuilt in 1945 due to the aftermath of the civil war and the 1944 earthquake.

The Gothic temple is part, together with a farmhouse and the cemetery, of an architectural complex of great quality and conservation. The fantastic 46-meter bell tower, today an icon of the municipality, stands out for its location under Mount Puigmal, which we see co-starring in these photographs next to the white mountain.
