Game of altocumulus clouds and fogs in Les Guilleries

The play of altocumulus and fog on the Sau cliffs, in Les Guilleries, offers a splendid morning spectacle, as seen in this series of images for La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos captured in Sant Martí Sescorts.

We are on horseback between the Collsacabra and the Plana de Vic. To the south we find the Salt del Cabrit, where the stream of Sant Martí Sescorts rushes into the pools and the swamp of Sau, in front of the monastery of Sant Pere de Casserres.

The granite massif of Les Guilleries is located at the vertex between the Catalan Pre-coastal and Transversal mountain ranges, forming part of both. It is located at the confluence of the regions of La Selva and Osona, with oak and cork oak forests on the slopes and oak and beech forests in the shady areas. Forest crops of pine and chestnut trees also predominate.

Altocumulus clouds are showy medium-altitude clouds, around 2 to 6 km, with cigar-shaped or rolled shapes, white to grayish in color.

They are often used as signs that a storm is approaching. Altocumulus clouds often precede a cold front. And, on hot, humid mornings, they signal the development of storm clouds.
