Five poisoned by inhaling smoke in a fire in Chamberí

The Firefighters of the Madrid City Council have put out the fire that broke out on Tuesday night in an eight-story building in the Chamberí district, which left five people intoxicated by smoke inhalation.

Five poisoned by inhaling smoke in a fire in Chamberí

The Firefighters of the Madrid City Council have put out the fire that broke out on Tuesday night in an eight-story building in the Chamberí district, which left five people intoxicated by smoke inhalation.

The fire, which originated in a meter room of the building, located at number 24 Gatzambide Street, began around 10:00 p.m. and 13 fire crews were working at the scene.

Madrid Emergency Sources have told Efe that it was not until after two in the morning when specialists considered the fire under control.

Then, the emergency services allowed the neighbors to return to their homes although the Samur Social offered them a housing alternative given that the entire building was without power supply.

During the extinction tasks, some of the residents of the 112 homes that the building houses were confined to their homes while others tried to escape by going down the stairs.

It was at that moment that the five people who suffered minor poisoning inhaled the smoke from the flames, which is why they had to be treated by the Samur-Civil Protection paramedics.

The Municipal Police established a police cordon around the scene of the fire to facilitate the work of the emergency services.
